Gillian Hall

Gillian Hall I Team Captain

Hi everyone! I am a fourth year Psychology student from Cleveland, Ohio. I plan to graduate in the spring and begin a Master of Social Work program next fall. After I become a Licensed Social Worker, I hope to pursue a career in Child Welfare, and eventually head to law school to earn a degree in Family Policy. I am a member of various clubs like Mental Health Matters, Oval Dogs, and Boot Scootin’ Buckeyes. In my free time, I love to volunteer with children with disabilities at LifeTown. My other hobbies include thrifting, reading, and hanging out with my dog. I am excited for this year in the lab; come visit us if you have any questions!

Maya Soundappan

Hi everyone!  I am a fifth year from Cincinnati, Ohio majoring in speech and hearing science with minors in neuroscience and clinical psychology.  After I graduate, I plan to earn my master's degree in speech-language pathology.  I am a research assistant for the Child Language and Motor Lab at Ohio State, specifically focusing on childhood apraxia of speech.  I am also a member of NSSLHA.  In the summer, I volunteer with a program called Buddy Up For Life, working with individuals with Down Syndrome. I love to play piano and guitar, watch sitcoms, travel, and spend time with my cat.  I am very excited to be working with everyone again this year!  Please reach out if you have any questions!

Howdy! My name is Allie, and I'm a 4th year undergrad from Cambridge, Ohio. I'm currently majoring in psychology and minoring in education. In addition to being a Peer Expert, I'm an undergrad teaching mentee, a research assistant, and the treasurer for the Psychology Club. Once I graduate, I hope to be admitted into a social psych PhD program, where I can continue to study the strange ways humans influence each other. In my (limited) free time, I enjoy playing videogames and decorating the occasional cake. Come see me in the Learning Lab if you need any help. Stats are wack, but I've got your back!

Hi everyone! My name is Grace, and I am a third year from New Lexington, Ohio. I am majoring in Psychology with a minor in Child Abuse and Neglect. After undergrad, I plan to pursue my master's in School Psychology. On campus, I have been involved in College Mentors for Kids, PenPALS, The Buckeye Blood Club, and Saint Paul's Outreach. I also worked as a Teach for America Ignite Fellowship Tutor.  During the summer, I work as Camp Staff for the Board of Developmental Disabilities Summer Camp in my county. In my free time I like to read, go for walks, cook new things, and hang out with friends. I look forward to meeting you all in the lab!

Hi! My name is Summer Boedeker, a third-year psychology and criminology major with minors in forensic science and American Sign Language from Perrysburg, Ohio. After I graduate, I hope to continue to study psychology and eventually become a forensic psychologist, focusing on applications of psychology within the criminal justice system. On campus, I’m very involved with my sorority, Gamma Phi Beta, and participate in various clubs, such as Scarlet and Gray (Taylor’s Version), Oval Dogs, Deaf-Hearing Club, and the Women’s Club Golf Team. I also work at the RPAC as a group fitness instructor, teaching Zumba and Aqua Fitness – feel free to join me for a class some time! Outside of classes, working, and clubs, I love reading, painting, going to concerts, watching Formula 1 races, and hanging out with my friends. I’m so excited to work as a Peer Expert and look forward to meeting you all!

Hello everyone! My name is Kyle, and I am from Mason, Ohio. I am a second-year student at Ohio State, and I am pursuing a major in psychology along with a minor in business. I am interested in both organizational psychology and sports psychology and plan on working in one of the two fields. After undergrad I plan on getting a master's degree in either sports or organizational psychology! In my free time I enjoy playing sports, specifically tennis, basketball, and volleyball. I love stats and I am looking forward to working with everyone!

Hi everyone! My name is Taylor and I’m from the western suburbs of Chicago. I am a third-year psychology student here at OSU. After undergrad, I am hoping to earn my master’s degree and get into teaching or mental health counseling. In addition to being a peer expert, I am also involved in Positive Psychology Club and my sorority, Alpha Xi Delta. In my free time, I enjoy reading and taking workout classes at the RPAC. Hello! I am a fourth-year from Waterford, Connecticut. I am pursuing a dual degree in economics and psychology with the hope of going to law school. I am also currently a research assistant for the Self, Stereotypes, and Social Norms Lab, a Student Manager at Juice 2, and a member of the Psychology Book Club. I love to read, listen to music, and crochet. I am excited to be a Psych 2220 Peer Expert and get to know everyone!

Hello everyone! My name is Grace and I am a student from the Cleveland area! I transferred to OSU the fall of 2022 and have since had a great time exploring everything that OSU has to offer. My major is psychology, and I am minoring in creative writing with the hope of eventually going to law school. In my free time, I like to read, run, and play cello. Hi! My name is Gabbie Kosakowski, and I am a second-year student from the Cleveland area. I am studying psychology with a minor in neuroscience on a pre-med track. I hope to attend medical school to become a psychiatrist or a different type of doctor. I am involved on campus with organizations such as Psychology Club, Bread Club, and Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. For fun, I enjoy baking, yoga, traveling to new places, listening to music, shopping too much, and getting sweet treats. My first semester I majored in engineering, so if you have any questions about switching to the psychology major or topics in Psych 2220 feel free to reach out!

Hi everyone!! My name is Jona. I am a second year from Solon, Ohio, and I am majoring in Psychology with a plan to minor in Studio Art. I plan to receive my bachelor's degree in psychology and then pursue a master's and possibly a PhD. I’d like to work primarily with children and have a focus on art therapy. On campus, I am part of Albanian club; during my free time, I love to crochet, paint, play volleyball, and spent time with my cat, Buttercup. I am super excited to work with everyone this year!

Hi everyone! My name is Meghan Rogozinski, and I am a second-year student from Cleveland, Ohio. I am currently majoring in Psychology and minoring in Music.  Outside of being a Peer Expert, I am a Research Assistant in the Stress, Behavioral Immunology, and Health Disparities Lab. I am also a member of Off The Lake Productions and the Women's Glee Club here on campus. I'm super excited to join the team at the Learning Lab and work with you all!

In my free time, I enjoy reading, yoga, and petting strangers' dogs. I look forward to working with you in the lab!

Peer Expert Job Description

  • Work with students providing explanations or concepts and guidance on practice problems but will NOT do homework problems for the student.
  • Peer Experts are scheduled to work 5-8 hours per week in the Learning Lab.
  • Peer Experts assist in Psychology 2220 classes 1-3 times each semester. Psychology 2220 classes are typically on MWF in autumn and spring semesters.
  • After reporting to work promptly at the scheduled time, Peer Experts are expected to be helpful, courteous, and respectful to students at all times.
  • Peer Experts work with a student for one or two problems at a time and then to move on to other students who need assistance.
  • Peer Experts provide feedback to students and offer an opportunity for discussion and exploration of concepts in data analysis.
  • Peer Experts encourage students in the Learning Lab to work with and learn from each other.
  • Peer Experts attend in-person trainings and complete weekly practice problems to review concepts and sharpen their explanatory skills. Particularly in autumn semester, Peer Experts should expect to spend 1-2 hours per week on training.
  • All Peer Experts must be available on the Friday before classes start in Autumn semester for a mandatory training and orientation.

Peer Expert Qualifications

  • Peer Experts must be knowledgeable about data analysis content covered in Psychology 2220.
  • Peer Experts should possess excellent communication and listening skills.
  • Peer Experts should be skilled in using SPSS and Excel and be willing to learn more advanced skills.
  • Peer Experts should have a patient, helpful, caring, and sensitive demeanor and a positive attitude when working with students.
  • To apply, you must be an undergraduate student at Ohio State in AU24 and SP25.

Hiring Process

  • Interested students apply online to be a Peer Expert for the upcoming academic year during the prior spring semester.
  • Following the online application, applicants for the Peer Expert positions complete an online Skills Test covering content from Psychology 2220.
  • Selected applicants are invited to interview.
  • After interviews, applicants may be offered a position as a Peer Expert for the upcoming academic year.
  • During the summer, Peer Experts complete online training and readings to sharpen their data analysis and tutoring skills.
  • On the Friday before classes start in autumn semester, Peer Experts must attend a mandatory orientation before starting work in the Learning Lab.

Peer Expert Compensation

  • Beginning Peer Experts are paid at an hourly rate of $11.25
  • Peer Experts who return to work in the Learning Lab in succeeding years may receive an increase in their hourly rate.
