Financial & stipend questions

  •  Council of Graduate Students Grants for Graduate Students

    CGS has always strived to support graduate students in pursuing their goals. To this end, CGS supports five funding sources:

    • The Edward F. Hayes Graduate Research Forum aims to help graduate students share their research with others and recognizes the truly outstanding students at the University.
       
    • The Edward J. Ray Travel Award for Scholarship and Service honors substantial commitment to service and helps graduate students to pursue their scholarly goals across the globe by financially aiding them when attending distant conferences and presentations.
       
    • The Global Gateway Graduate Student Research Abroad Grant encourages and promoted the professional and academic development of graduate researchers at OSU by providing financial support that allows graduate students to undertake research abroad.
       
    • The Engaged Scholar Grant incentivizes graduate students to undertake community-engaged research or community-engaged projects, in collaboration with a community partner, that address a specific need or problem within the community (in-state or out-of-state).
       
    • The Career Development Grant program encourages graduate students to prepare for placement into their chosen field and provides an opportunity to defray associated costs.
       
  • Professional Development Grants (Critical Difference for Women Program)
    • A $1,000 award meant to facilitate professional development, career mobility, or expansion of professional networks.
       
    • Eligible applicants must demonstrate how their record of achievement/engagement positively impacts diversity or gender equity in your community.
       
    • Can use funds towards participation and/or presentation at professional conferences, seminars, or workshops; research; materials, equipment, supplies, or other expenses directly related to career or professional development; developing articles or books for publication; networking or mentoring activities.

The Student Wellness Center offers services for holistic wellness related to physical health, mental health, sexual health, and more.

  • Dissertation Boot Camp hosted by ODI
    • A three-day event that provides Ohio State all-but-dissertation students with the space to work on their dissertations/EdD project
       
    • You will receive valuable one-on-one coaching and feedback
       
  • Resources for graduate students from OSU Dennis Learning Center 
    • Academic coaching: For individualized strategies from a graduate academic coach
       
    • Procrastination accountability groups: Meet with other students weekly to set goals in this 1-credit, 7-week course
       
    • Productivity Program: An interactive, online 6-week certificate program that teaches effective strategies to help graduate students set goals and be more productive
       
    • Various workshops and tips and tools
       
  • Student Life Career Counseling and Support Services
    • Provides individual attention tailored to each students' unique career need.
       
    • Assistance with career assessment, major and career exploration, career decision making, career goals and guidance on the development of career tools: resumes, vita, cover letters, interviewing skills, personal statements, and job search strategies.
       
  • Writing center
    • Offers free help with writing at any stage of the writing process for any member of the university community.
       
    • Consultants can work with students on anything from research papers to lab reports, from dissertations to résumés, from proposals to application materials.

Looking for individual & group therapy resources?

  • Students with OSU Student Health Insurance can receive around ten free counseling sessions per semester
     
  • CCS offers a wide variety of group counseling, including:
    • Psychoeducational and Skills Groups (e.g., managing stress, healing from sexual violence, recovering from eating disorders)
       
    • Affinity Groups (i.e., identity-based groups such as SAFE graduate group for students who identify as Black/African American, Latinx graduate group for students who identify as Latinx, Queer grad group for students who identify as LGBTQ+, etc.)
       
    • Interpersonal Groups (e.g., ABD Group for doctoral students who are working on their dissertation, Graduate Student Group for any graduate student)
  • Ohio Psychological Association Free Online Public Referral Resource
    • This is a database of licensed psychologists who are OPA members - database can be searched by geography, treatment focus, theoretical orientation, and more.
       
  • CCS Community Provider Database
    • This is a database CCS compiled of local providers - database can be searched by insurance coverage, credential, treatment focus, theoretical orientation, and more.
       
  • Psychological Services Center Resource List
    • Resources posted on the PSC’s website for identifying mental health providers.
    • “The PSC does not explicitly recommend any offices for treatment. Individuals are encouraged to contact offices for more information on services, insurance acceptance and affordability.”

    • A resource for students, researchers, and the general public describing evidence-supported treatments for psychological disorders

Want to report a concern or incident?

  • The Student Advocacy Center provides support for students to resolve issues related to academics, finances, health, personal life, and more.  
  • What will the process look like? 
    • The Office of University Compliance and Integrity reviews and promptly addresses concerns. Your report will be acknowledged and your questions and concerns will be relayed to the appropriate parties.
       
    • If an investigation is warranted, an investigative unit will conduct a prompt and thorough investigation.
       
    • Investigators will reach a conclusion and share the outcome of the investigation.
  • The Office of Ombuds Services provides an independent, confidential space where faculty members and graduate and professional students discuss issues and receive informal counsel and advice

      • Services are informal, someone hear to listen
         
      • It's up to the students to take action and decide what path or option works best for them
         
      • Can provide advice and coach students once they make a decision

  • The OSU Anonymous Reporting Line offers simple, risk-free ways to confidentially report unethical or inappropriate behaviors and activity for matters such as but not limited to:

    • Students can call the following number to file a report (1-866-294-9350) or file an online report
      • You get connected with a representative who asks a series of questions that can take up to 15 minutes
         
    • The representative types up the report and sends it to the appropriate entity at OSU
       
    • Optional to enter Name and email address
      • If you provide contact information, you can expect a response within 10 business days

  • Title IX in the Office of Institutional Equity handles issues and concerns related to sexual assault, sexual harassment, domestic/dating violence, stalking, sex-based discrimination, pregnancy discrimination
     
  • What will the process look like?
    • The Title IX Coordinator oversees reports of sexual misconduct.
       
    • The form provides the following questions:

      • Nature of sexual misconduct (if applicable)
