Description of Opportunity and Organization:
The Black Joy Foundation (BJF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to amplifying, cultivating, and supporting Black boys to reach their full potential. They are seeking volunteers for the annual Black Boy Joy Summer Camp on Saturday, May 31, 2025, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM. The camp consists of a day filled with fun, educational activities, and mentorship for young Black men (ages 9-12).
Specific Responsibilities:
Volunteer roles will vary depending on the student's interests and skills. Potential responsibilities include:
- Mentor/Coach: Male mentors, aged 18 and older, will develop strategies, teach skills, lead teams, and coach other mentors to foster collaboration and communication among scholars.
- Jr. Coach: Male junior coaches, aged 14-18, will oversee games, referee, and keep score. This role provides valuable training and experience for aspiring mentors and coaches.
- Hospitality: Volunteers of all genders will provide food and beverages, create a welcoming environment, and assist scholars as needed.
- Marketing/Logistics: This role involves assisting with creative activities like arts and crafts and games, as well as supporting logistical tasks such as set-up and clean-up.
Time Commitment:
We ask for a minimum commitment of one full day (Saturday, May 31, 2025) from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Additional pre-camp training sessions (approximately 2-3 hours total) may be offered in the weeks leading up to the event to ensure all volunteers feel confident and prepared.
