Class of (AU)2019: Syamil Yakin
Syamil, from Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia, is a double major with cultural anthropology and a member of ASC Honors. He chose Ohio State for its reputation as a prestigious university with a strong academic and research background. Over the past two years, Syamil conducted research on social motivation with Dr. Crocker, attended an Interdisciplinary Mind and Brain Summer Workshop at the University of Pennsylvania, and took advantage of the various events and activities within the Department of Psychology. He states of his psychology research experience, “My time in Dr. Crocker’s lab taught me invaluable research skills as well as professional skills. I am now deeply attached to participation in research in all of its stages.”
After graduation, Syamil hopes to further his research experience by attending graduate school in Psychological and Cognitive Anthropology.
His advice to psychology students who may find themselves overwhelmed by the choices at Ohio State? “I really love the Department of Psychology's Career, Internship, and Graduate School Fair! It's such a great resource and I've learned about so many ways you can be engaged and involved. There are so many ways you can keep your hands full here at OSU, and the fair is a good place to start looking!”
