Class of 2020: Sitong Zhao

Sitong Zhao

Sitong, from Beijing, China, loves being a Buckeye because of the passionate, welcoming environment Ohio State offers. Her decision to major in psychology comes from a desire to improve the mental health of children in China, and she hopes to become a psychological counselor after graduation:

“In China, psychological problems were affecting a large number of children and adolescents, including left-behind children, children with disabilities or unique habits, students suffering from school bullying or cyberbullying, students overwhelmed by increasing learning pressures, and youth growing up in a dysfunctional family. Under such circumstances, I realized that aside from material support, psychological counseling was also indispensable for the young people.”

As a current undergrad student, Sitong works as a Wellness Coach, volunteers as a Buckeye PAL, and is an active member of the Psychology Book Club. Although she’s loved every psychology class, her favorite was Social Psychology because, “it not only taught me the knowledge about the whole social psychology but also allow me to know better about myself as a human being.”

Her advice to other psychology majors? “In the journey of exploring the fascinating world provided by this field, identifying which part attracts you the most would be a great help in terms of pursuing your dream and interest.”
