Since graduating with a dual degree in music and psychology (BA) in 2018, Havovi works as a Lab Manager for The Speech, Language, and Music Lab here at Ohio State. Although there is no “typical” work day in the field of research, Havovi’s major weekly tasks include: Managing the lab’s IRB, maintaining financial records, recruiting participants, assisting graduate students, and helping run the lab’s behavioral studies.

“My favorite part about my job is that it is incredibly versatile, so there is always an opportunity to learn and grow.  I love that it perfectly combines my two majors and passions - music and psychology!  I plan to apply to get my Master's in Music Therapy, and this lab is helping me learn more about this work while making significant contributions to the field I hope to be in someday.”

Although the job contains many challenges, such as keeping track of a myriad of small details, Havovi states it has helped her to improve her time management and organizational skills. She’s also enjoyed the on-site learning the job provides and how she’s always striving to know more and develop stronger skills.

Her advice to current undergrads? “As you begin to plan for your careers, don't be afraid to pursue your wildest dreams and always strive to be the best version of yourself in your personal and professional life.  See every opportunity as a chance to learn, grow, and build valuable friendships and connections with others around you.  Your goals may change over time, and that's perfectly okay. There is no perfectly drawn path to reach your goals, so enjoy and appreciate all the stops along the way.”
