Emily, from Worthington, Ohio, was born and raised a buckeye fan. After taking AP Psychology, Emily developed an interest in helping those who suffer from mental illness and chose psychology as her major to delve deeper into the field. After graduating this May, Emily plans to pursue a master's in school counseling and ultimately work in an elementary school.

During her nearly four years at OSU, Emily took many fascinating classes, traveled overseas, and gained leadership on campus. Her favorite psychology classes were Abnormal Psychology and Theories of Personality, as they focused on understanding how we develop as unique individuals and how to treat those with severe mental illness. In May after her sophomore year, Emily used her STEP money to study abroad in Paris through OSU's Global May Paris program. She was able to see all the iconic Parisian sites as well as Disneyland Paris and a professional ballet performance at Paris Opera! Back in Columbus, The OSU Irish Dance Team was a major part of her college life. She first served on the executive board as social chair and is currently the president. The club performs at events on campus and attends competitions twice a year.

Although options were more limited this year due to Covid-19, Emily still found ways to stay busy and learn new skills: "During the lockdown I started gardening and taking care of houseplants. I grew vegetables over the summer in my backyard and have since filled my room with lots of pothos and snake plants!"

Now that she's nearly finished with her college career, Emily offers this advice to new students: "Because psychology is such a broad major, there are so many career options and that can feel overwhelming when first entering into the major. I was able to take different electives and talk to different professors to see what I am most interested in and that led me to school counseling!"
