Class of 2020: Jazmyn Mustafa

Jazmyn Mustafa

Jazmyn, originally from Las Vegas, NV, choose to attend Ohio State not only for the sense of school pride, but also for the psychology faculty. She chose psychology because she is curious about answering research questions involving human emotions and behavior.

Her passion for research stemmed from her favorite class, Memory and Cognition, which helped her understand how people think and process information. She built on this passion by involving herself in research within and outside of the department. Currently, Jazmyn is an undergrad research assistant in Dr. Ratcliff's Cognition and Aging Lab, which focuses on memory, decision-making, and numeracy. Additionally, she completed a perception and cognition research-focused program in Scotland last summer, working with Professor Frank Pollick.  During her time in Scotland, she conducted a data analysis project requiring participants with autism spectrum disorders to watch ballet dance videos while in an fMRI scanner. She also attends The Psychology Department Research Colloquium each year: “I love seeing different psychology students' work come to fruition in the form of poster presentations. I hope to one day present at this event myself.”

After graduation, Jazmyn plans to attend graduate school and is currently exploring options in clinical or counseling psychology.
