Class of 2019: Siobhan McDermott
Siobhan, from Cleveland, OH, chose OSU for its highly rated psychology program and because she fell in love with the campus and its distance from home (just right). Psychology became an interest of Siobhan’s in high school; that interest has only grown during her years at OSU. She states, “Psychology is a great major because there is so much you can do with [it]. The possibilities are endless!”
Wanting to explore those possibilities herself, Siobhan has gotten involved in many different ways around campus. She is a research assistant in Dr. Kiecolt-Glaser’s lab focusing on stress and health, and is a Pelotonia Fellow, a grant she received for her work studying how depression relates to physical fitness in breast cancer patients.
Although there are far too many to list here, a few of her favorite experiences at OSU include rubbing the head of Oxley’s statue in the Thompson Library for luck on exams and learning about mindfulness therapy in her abnormal psychology class.
After graduation, Siobhan plans on pursuing medical school and becoming a Psychiatrist, focusing on health equity in low socioeconomic adult populations.
