Class of 2019: Devon Smith
Devon from Menlo Park, CA, chose Ohio State because it had everything she was looking for: a large student body, school spirit, exciting sports, and an incredible psychology program, among other things. For someone who loves helping others, choosing psychology was an easy decision. Devon states, “I knew that helping others ignited my soul more than anything else. . . .Psychology simply fell into my lap. It was meant to be!”
Devon believes OSU stands out from other institutions because of its diversity: diversity of people, programs and experiences. Besides her psychology classes (especially Positive Psychology), one of Devon’s favorite experiences at OSU was traveling to Australia and New Zealand on a leadership trip with the Outdoor Adventure Center. “It was honestly a life-changing experience… we learned about various leadership styles, discovered the styles that resonate most with us, and had the chance to try out <many of> the styles as “Leader of the Day.”
Although unsure of what she wants to do after graduation, Devon likes to dream big: “Since I’ve always wanted to start my own business, I'm currently thinking about getting an MBA. My business would be some combination of private life coaching, motivational speaking, workshop teaching, and much more. I'd also like to continue my work as a yoga instructor (I'm already certified) as well as write a couple of books.”
