Class of 2018: Mia Kern
Mia, from West Chester, Ohio, chose to study psychology at Ohio State because she wants to make an impact in the area of mental health. Mia later wants to pursue a dual graduate degree in Social Work and Public Administration.
Mia is in the ASC honors program, and enjoys it because the smaller classes allow her to be more engaged with the material and get to know other people in the program. Mia’s honors thesis analyzed how people control their emotions, and the links between that and different forms of psychopathology. Though initially nervous about the thesis process, she stated she “had a great experience which led up to my successful defense.”
She also loves being a course assistant for Psychology 1100, because she has learned all that goes into planning and teaching a course. She even got to lead her own mini-lecture. “Overall, it’s been a great experience that I would recommend to everyone!”
After graduation, the tradition she will miss the most as a student is watching everyone spell O-H-I-O with lights at home football games.
