Class of 2018: Meggan Dingus

Meggan Dingus

Meggan, from Milford, OH fell in love with Ohio State during a college visit which her mother forced her to attend: “I was very grumpy and didn’t want to come.” However the wide variety of opportunities at OSU—research, internships, education abroad, career building--drew her in. Meggan took advantage of as many of those opportunities as she could during her time here. From spending a month in France to joining a sorority, to working as a research assistant in Dr. Walton’s lab, to completing a semester in a 6th grade classroom through FEEP, Meggan enjoyed each experience. She was initially hesitant about the psychology major but grew to appreciate the wide variety of classes and the responsive advising. Her advice to other students considering psychology is to embrace the diverse curriculum and attend office hours, “Most students don’t go to office hours, so when you do, then you stand out… you have people in your corner advocating and supporting you.”

Although it was hard to choose, some of Meggan’s favorite experiences were working at Haugland Learning Center during her Psychology of Disabilities course practicum and singing Carmen, Ohio at football games; “When we won the National Championship, I remember going to the oval when it was dark and cold. . . and everyone gathered into a circle <to sing>.”

After graduation, Meggan will attend the EdS program in School Psychology at Miami University. Her long-term goal is to work in an Ohio public school expanding progress-monitoring approaches in early intervention.
