Barbara Andersen named Distinguished University Professor

Barbara Andersen

Last week, Barbara Andersen of the Department of Psychology was named a Distinguished University Professor, being surprised by the provost and college leadership at the department’s annual faculty awards ceremony. Andersen is one of only two Distinguished University Professors being named this year, and she joins the ranks of fellow Distinguished University Professors in the College of Arts and Sciences, who make up two-thirds of all awarded Distinguished University Professorships. Andersen's research surrounds psychological, behavioral, and biologic (biobehavioral) aspects of cancer as they relate to disease progression. Her recent work includes randomized clinical trials of psychological interventions to reduce stress and depressive symptoms; improve quality of life, health behaviors and adherence, and health outcomes; improve immunity; and reduce the risk for recurrence.
