Are you thinking about applying for the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP)? If you are a US citizen or permanent resident who is applying to grad school this fall, and you are working in a research area relevant to NSF, you should consider this opportunity.
I will be holding a workshop for OSU students about applying for the GRFP. We will also have several recent NSF GRFP awardees/honorable mentions from here at OSU to answer questions from the perspective of a successful applicant.
In this workshop, I will address key points for making a strong application, including:
- What are the main goals of the GRFP?
- What does Intellectual Merit and Broader Impact mean for the GRFP?
- What are the key features that can keep your application competitive?
- Are you still eligible if you study a disease model? (possibly yes!)
- What if you don't know what lab you will end up in? Can you still apply? (absolutely yes!)
- Do you have to do the project you propose? (no!)
- Do senior undergrads really have a chance to get an award? (absolutely!)
I will talk about these points, and the awardees/honorable mentions and I will take questions. I am doing this from the perspective of the neurosciences/psychology but the content will be broadly applicable to any science field. All OSU students are welcome.
